Bipartisanship!

There are plenty of issues for which liberals and libertarians ought to be able to get together. Pretty much anytime you have the state handing out candy to wealthy special interests. E.g., any kind of corporate welfare or BS charity.

It just turns out that there are zero libertarians in Republican politics.

The best stuff on TV is college sports. George Will is correct about everything he wrote, and this is a misuse of government tax policy, but, it increases the best stuff on TV. I'm looking forward to Ohio State/ UMichigan in football and, maybe, Duke/ UNC in basketball--it's the best stuff--and how often does goverment policy result in such?

Privatize college sports! No, really. I'm sure colleges would be better off without the teams. If they could sell them for $1 they'd be better off.

Phys. Ed., club sports, and intermurals. That's it.

I've got no use for college sports. They're a disgrace.

God, this is the stupidest column by George Will since the one he wrote opposing the war.

He notes the graduation rates of D-I football and b-ball players. But he conveniently leaves out that only 54% of student in general graduate. That means that D-I football players graduate at a HIGHER rate than the students at large. For D-I athletics in general, 77% of student-athletes graduate.

It's not often you see this kind of dishonesty from George Will.

As to the money being made off of football and basketball - what exactly does Will think is done with this money??? It goes to operating expenses for those sports or is used for other university purposes! What's the difference between that and money made, e.g., by selling T-shirts in the university bookstore???

What a pathetic column.

Universities need the revenue from such events to make up lacking federal budget...

What football and basketball really need is a good minor league system for player development like in baseball and hockey. Many of those teams could be profitable enterprises as well. Why not end the pretense that the Division 1 teams are made up of real college students and just let the colleges become sponsors of professional minor league teams.
