The Money

Business seems to be heding its bets more firmly, ramping up late donations to the Democrats who, it seems, a lot of major business PACs expect to take over the House. This, of course, raises the question of exactly how in hock to K Street Democrats intend to make themselves if they do take over. Thanks to the party's more diverse interest-group base, the Democrats are inevitably going to be less of a front for the business lobby than the GOP but there's still a widish range of possibilities out there.

Delay would be rolling over in his grave, if he were in it. The entire K Street project rejected, in tatters. The horror.

The Dems sold their soul to this devil long ago and will welcome back his dollars with utmost graciousness. Unless or until the foundations of Market Fundamentalism are destroyed by some sort of financial system crisis then corporations thru K Street will rule. At the margins Dems will chip away at the depradations visited upon us by the GOP in regulation, law and law enforcement, but it will be as I say at the margins and won't mean much.

I think we have to make it clear that many times they will have to choose between business and netroots support, and although we will have less money, we are increasingly our own media, and money is chiefly the purchase of media.

Clinton and the DNC put us behind the 8 ball to business interests. As Democrats we need to remember that nothing good ever comes from that position. Producing a climate where business can prosper is far different from carrying water for individual clients.
