The State is a bittersweet memory. It was the best sketch comedy show of the 90's, but was shut down before its time & they STILL HAVEN'T RELEASED IT ON DVD!!!!!!!! WTF??!! Reno 911 is pretty funny, but that huge crew could put out a product unrivaled by any comedy crew since EARLY kids in the hall.

Muppet hunting is great, but I think my favorites were always the meta sketches with the whole cast as themselves. Specifically I'm thinking of "Sleep With the State" and one where they were all supposed to share something with the audience, but pretty much only Michael Ian Black ends up revealing anything. "I'll start, my name is Michael Ian Black, but my real last name is Schwartz, which I changed because I'm ashamed of being Jewish".

That or the Louie sketch at the Last Supper.

Well, it was certainly strange, I'll give you that...

I spent a good part of the 90s either in Asia, in the hospital, or some combination of the 2. The only thing I really regret missing out on (having seen them on youtube) is the Geraldine Fibbers.

All through-the-grapevine, friend-of-a-friend stuff, but my understanding is that the DVD release has been held up by the nightmare of copyright issues associated with all the background music(this was back when the M in MTV at least nominally stood for "music," and as such every episode was required to be supersaturated with grunge hits du jour). However, my friend-of-a-friend supposedly has some involvement with greenlighting DVD projects at MTV and, allegedly, a sound engineer has been called in to separate out all the problem music without losing the other audio (aka teh funny). I can't say whether this is true, all I can say is that I'm not lying and I've never known my friend (the one with the other friend) to lie about stuff like this. Take it for what you will.

As for State vs. Mr. Show, I've spent a LOT of time immersed in both and I don't really see a clear superior between the two. I'm not really sure what's "insane" about preferring the State over Mr. Show, especially since it's doubtful Mr. Show would ever have seen air without the groundwork laid by the State and (especially) Kids in the Hall.
