Pros and Cons

Good stuff from McSweeney's as John Moe runs down the pros and cons of the Democratic contenders. I think Petey's gonna like this one.

I think they mixed up the "cons" for 18 and 19.

I liked ZooTV.

Anyone who prefers Joshua Tree to the Zoo TV era is hopelessly lame.

Otherwise, I think he nailed it.

Really, really funny.

I wouldn't go that far, and it seems like a nonsensical thing to say anyway. The ZooTV live shows drew a great deal of their power from the Joshua Tree songs, especially Bullet, Running to Stand Still, and Streets. The ZooTV era wouldn't have been possible without the Joshua Tree preceding it.

"I think Petey's gonna like this one."

Hell, no.

Allen Iverson brings much more than just instant offense.

Just so there's no confusion, it should noted that I would abandon Edwards in a split second for either Ira Glass or Zombie Lyndon Johnson, were they to toss their hats in the ring.

I'd be hesitant to support Zombie Lyndon Johnson. My big question would be, what kind of brains does he need? Do they need to be fully functional? If so, where do we get them from? There's already a shortage of those.

If not, though, I'd be reassured. It'd be a great way to keep the currect administration hacks from doing damage in the private sector.

Even zombie-Lyndon is 10 times the politician than anyone running these days.

This is still my favorite piece from McSweeney's:

I'm curious to hear how you feel about the Trippi hire, Petey. I only caught the tail end of the Dean phenomenon -- my resurgent interest in politics dates back to January 2004 when I discovered Edwards.

In what way is The Joshua Tree a pro?

Let's see now...pro...bably the biggest piece of...

Not that you asked me, but I think it's a good thing, probably. Aside from Dean-as-candidate being the basic problem (and I don't mean that in a mean way), I wondered if the intense networking in his '04 campaign wasn't a weakness - that the movement ended up being sort of captive to itself. But I guess that speaks to the candidate as well, and to the times - lots of people just fed up.

Trippi brings a very interesting chunk of nat'l experience to the mix.
